My take on one of the most annoying and ill-reasoned arguments against marriage equality.

This was hilarious.

“I will ban you, and you.”

That little magic hand gesture while he makes the others vanish was genius.

Wonderful! Though part of it is behind the Papa John’s ad, for some reason.

There are questions I always want to ask those who smugly say gays have the same right as everyone else, which is to marry a person of the opposite sex:

Would you want your straight daughter to, unknowingly, marry a gay man? If not, I assume it would be okay for someone else’s daughter, right? These sham marriages, which are destined to be dysfunctional, have been common throughout history, and are still happening today, but that is better for society than allowing same-sex marriage, right?

How about if the man is ex-gay? If he’s no longer gay, that should be okay, right? And again, if not, I assume it would be okay for someone else’s daughter, right?

So, wouldn’t it benefit society if gays were regarded as full equals so they would feel comfortable marrying someone of their own sex, rather than faking an op-sex marriage in order to survive in a hostile world? Or do you still fell that sham marriages produce a better society?

@R.Rush: The qustion you pose actually would require a thought process, something in which the anti-equality crowd rarely engages. Thinking and attempting to be empathetic may strain their brain, and they can’t allow that. These people have a script to follow. If the ask them to go off-script, they’re completely lost. All you get are blank stares and spittle.

As I always like to point out, marriage equality mean exactly that– equality. Any straight man will still be able to marry the other straight man of his choice. Oh, you say you don’t want to marry another man, that it’s of no interest to you, that the gender of your future spouse is of tremendous importance to you?

Welcome to my world.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Straight From The Source: What the “Dutch Study” Really Says About Gay Couples

The FRC’s Briefs Are Showing

Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
