His Dad is probably using “tough love” therapy. It is prescribed by thousands of religious groups (Mormons especially) to treat homosexuality. I’m glad his other parent and siblings have seen a different way to use ‘love’.

BTW, generally speaking, California Mormons are far more progressive in their handling of gay Saints. I often believe most born-and-raised Utah Mormons need to take a sabbatical to California to get a more ‘worldly‘ view of life.
