Defense Secretary Leon Penetta has released this video to all Defense Department employees and servicemembers commemorating June as Gay Pride month.

That is a really NICE message. I read on Joe My God yesterday that the Pentagon is going to have a Gay Pride Celebration. As Joe said about the reactions of Tony, and Porno Pete and Maggie=Brian, “Oh this should be Delish”

That made me laugh, that “This should be delish”

But seriously we are living in amazing times. We don’t win everything, we do have losses but by God look, just look how far we have come since Obama was elected in advancing Equal Civil Rights for Sexual Minorities. Even IF, which I hope not, even IF we don’t have Obama leading us for 4 more years, this bell cannot be unrung. We have reached critical mass and the only way is forward, the tide is coming in not going out. If Romney gets in we may hit some breakers to slow us a bit but it will NOT reverse the tide.

Happy Pride month everybody :)and I have never been to one.

In fact I only saw my first video of a Pride Parade last year when in San Diego service members marched in T-Shirts with their service branch on them because DADT had been repealed but not yet implemented. It made me so proud and so happy to see those services members in San Diego march.

One thing is Panetta forgot the Coast Guard in his speech. that will not make the Coasties happy. (I think that is what they are called, right? Coasties)

SGM, the Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security at this time. Previously part of the Dept. of Transportation. Only during a full mobilization do they fall under DoD.

That said, I do not know exactly how DADT applied to them when it was in effect.

LGBT civilians

I’m confused. (a) Aren’t trans people still discriminated against in the US military? (b) Why’s he talking about civilians?

Also, as a sidenote, is having the greatest military force on the planet actually something to be proud of?

TRiG.

(a) Yes
(b) Because secretary Panetta is also the boss of 700,000 civilian employees, including trans people.

BTW, as a follow-up, it does appear that the USCG fell under DADT. It seems strange, since it’s not under DoD,but I guess their members fall under all of the military regulations, anyway.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
