Wikileaks Outs Saudi Gay Men, Male Rape Victims, People With HIV

WikiLeaks has always bragged that it was on a mission to expose government secrets in the quest for open government. It’s own operations and agendas aren’t nearly so transparent, especially with its recent cooperation with Russian hackers to influence the U.S. presidential elections in favor of Donald Trump. Now Wikileaks is releasing private medical and other files affecting ordinary citizens which have nothing to do with government secrecy:

In the past year alone, the radical transparency group has published medical files belonging to scores of ordinary citizens while many hundreds more have had sensitive family, financial or identity records posted to the web. In two particularly egregious cases, WikiLeaks named teenage rape victims. In a third case, the site published the name of a Saudi citizen arrested for being gay, an extraordinary move given that homosexuality is punishable by death in the ultraconservative Muslim kingdom.

They published everything: my phone, address, name, details,” said a Saudi man who told AP he was bewildered that WikiLeaks had revealed the details of a paternity dispute with a former partner. “If the family of my wife saw this… Publishing personal stuff like that could destroy people.”

….The AP independently found three dozen records pertaining to family issues in the cables — including messages about marriages, divorces, missing children, elopements and custody battles. Many are very personal, like the marital certificates which reveal whether the bride was a virgin. Others deal with Saudis who are deeply in debt, including one man who says his wife stole his money. One divorce document details a male partner’s infertility. Others identify the partners of women suffering from sexually transmitted diseases including HIV and Hepatitis C.

…Three Saudi cables published by the WikiLeaks identified domestic workers who’d been tortured or sexually abused by their employers, giving the women’s full names and passport numbers. One cable named a male teenager who was raped by a man while abroad; a second identified another male teenager who was so violently raped his legs were broken; a third outlined the details of a Saudi man detained for “sexual deviation” – a derogatory term for homosexuality.

Scott Long, an LGBT rights activist who has worked in the Middle East, said the names of rape victims were off-limits. And he worried that releasing the names of people persecuted for their sexuality only risked magnifying the harm caused by oppressive officials.

“You’re legitimizing their surveillance, not combating it,” Long said.

This is sickening. It looks like Assange is determined to destroy the entire world as revenge for being stuck in an embassy. I hope he develops a desperate craving for bangers & mash from a real restaurant and gets busted now.

The Left has been turning on Assange rather quickly as soon as he went for Hillary, when it had previously hailed Chelsea Manning — one of its contributors– as a martyr alongside figures like Snowden.

That’s the thing about foreign actors like Assange, they don’t care for political affiliation. Establishment Democrats use him when it suits them, and condemn him when he positions himself against their interests by digging for and shining light on scandals against him to punish him for his lack of party loyalty.

Hmm, this stuff is somewhat beyond the pale though – not exactly “scandals against him”. What benefit could this possibly bring to anyone?

Lucrece – it’s not just Democrats. Even people who generally support the broad mission of WikiLeaks, like Edward Snowden and Glenn Greenwald, are having second thoughts because it has become a hot mess. What was once a relatively well curated source of important leaks on government actors, has become a rush to release quantity (20,000 emails, the bulk of which are meaningless) over quality. I comes now to releasing private medical documents, drivers licence and passport information, and other personal information about random private people. Not only that, but it’s become so poorly curated that a large amount of it’s content is now spam and malware. The whole thing has become a mess.

Greenwald is about as left-wing progressive as you can get. He’s supported establishment Democrats until Bernie came along. Snowden criticizes Wikileaks and yet he’s safely tucked away in Russia.

The site was NEVER well-curated. Even with Chelsea Manning’s releases, there were reports about names unrelated to government whistleblowing being put out for the world to see. There’s always been collateral damage.

Assange is just being assailed now because he went against the establishment left-wingers associate themselves with for a change. You can bet your ass that if some hacks had exposed Trump’s dirty ties to the middle east monarchs/oligarchs and was obtained by Russians, you wouldn’t have all these Democrats crying about national treason (it’d be the Republicans instead, but that’s OK to expect because we associate Republicans with being authoritarians, as opposed to Democrats who we expect better from).

Bernie was vindicated by Wikileaks. The DNC screwed him over, as well as atheists and other sectors of the democratic voter base. He did well to abandon the party after the convention and return to being an Independent. Now he and his supporters are being dragged through the coals as punishment, being stereotyped as young straight white dudes (when a sizable population of Bernie’s voters is women, including mestizo women like Rosario Dawson). They’ve been called sexist when Gloria and Madeline called women gender traitors for voting against Hillary, and they’ve been called racists when it’s Hillary’s policies which have hurt racial minorities far more.

This is just payback.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
