A new Field Poll indicates that Proposition 8 is losing support among likely voters. (Press-Enterprise)
A Field Poll survey released today found that 38 percent of likely voters support Prop. 8. In July, 42 percent of those surveyed backed the measure.
Fifty-five percent of likely voters oppose Prop. 8, an increase from 51 percent who opposed it in July. The percentage of undecided voters remains at 7 percent.
This should not, however, cause us to lose concern or focus. The Yes on 8 campaign has a huge war-chest and will likely begin running advertisement at the end of this month. We need to fight every step of the way and sacrifice whatever we can to keep our hard-earned equality.

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. my worry, when I see these positive poll results is that we’ll have a bunch of lazy people stay home on election day because they figure “oh, it’s not going to pass, what’s one less vote?”

Jason, I absolutely agree. We not only need every vote to make sure we defeat it (and AZ and FL), we need to defeat it by as wide a margin as possible. If the victory is extremely close, they may well be back. there is a great deal of money and power at stake.
On another note, everyone can do something against all three initiatives. It will not only help defeat them, but it will also help to make your life better.
COME OUT.
If you are not compromising your physical safety, COME OUT. If there are people in your life who do not know you are gay, COME OUT. If they live in one of the three states, COME OUT. Even if they don’t live there, COME OUT.
And do it NOW. Not eventually, not next month, but NOW.
Talk to your friends and families about what is at stake. Ask them for your sake to vote no on 8 or 102 or however Charlie Crist’s beard is identified.
If they cannot vote NO, then ask them not to vote on it at all. Not voting on it at all is better than voting for it.
Reasearch and epxerience both show that people who know gay people do not vote against them. The closet is the enemy, not the Rabid Right. not your parents. not your pastor. Not your family. The closet.

The Public Policy Institute poll from the end of August showed 40% for, 54% opposed, and 6% undecided. This poll presents a slight improvement from those figures. The current poll shows 1% more undecided than the PPI poll, it wouldn’t be too surprising if those people moved back into the “for” prop 8 column.

Why is eveyone so afraid of this passing? Who is it really going to hurt? Are you afraid your kids may become gay? They have minds of their own, you can’t make them one way or the other! Get over it!

When Ross Perot said “you people” it was taken as an offensive term. But when you use it, Dale, I can actually hear the hatred behind it.
I’ll not worry about history, Dale. You see, I can read the polling and easily tell that time is on my side.
