In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. Wow! I almost feel this video was me (minus the awesomely good looks) in the 1960s at college where I fell in love with a straight roommate. He often rode with me on the back of my motorbike, which of course was wonderful, and one day I finally got the courage to take him into the woods to tell him how I felt. (He was the first person I ever told about being gay.) He couldn’t reciprocate the feelings, but he did agree to room with me (just the two of us) for our senior year. He really was one of the greatest guys I’ve ever known.

I have a hard time with “jaded old gay men” who criticize young gay artists. I got on this rant while reading the negativity directed at Xavier Dolan’s films J’ai tue ma mere (I Killed my Mother) and Les amours imaginaires (Heartbeats): Grand and Dolan are telling their early-20s stories that are important to them. More amazingly, they have successfully completed their movie or video or song – they should be supported and encouraged to keep creating.
BTW, your 6-year old’s painting is not original, it lacks perspective, and the sun doesn’t have yellow rays pointing outwards in all directions!

I agree; it’s a classic theme – “Layla”, “Jessie’s Girl”, etc, etc. But I thought it was sweet and the story came through very well in the video. Bravo! I hope this gets some play as a music video, not as ‘that gay country music video’. I like country music, and this is a great song!

I don’t believe it. That video does not look home made. It looks like it cost $500,000. I know the singer has thanked all of those who helped him but does that include a lighting cameraman and colorist? Best boy, grips and wardrobe? To say nothing of casting director, editor, writer, and director? Just one example, those reverse close-ups in the car ( and that had to be hired and brought to set) take hours to rig. You can’t just sit down with your iPhone and shoot that. Then we get to the recording itself. Mom’s basement? Really?
What I think is interesting is that this kind of money has been spent to create a new gay C&W singer. And some marketing genius has decided the way to launch him is to place the video on Youtube and let it go viral. Certainly got all the gay sites talking about it. Of course I could be quite wrong but I do not believe this is a couple of kids in mom’s basement.

He says it cost $7,000 which he paid by maxing out his credit cards. I’m not in the industry, but I do know that a lot of entry-level production and acting is all friends who volunteer for each other. So the costs for cameraman etc. may actually have been at no cost. The equipment rental was probably the out-of-pocket.
Of course his next shoot, he’ll have to pay everyone. And if this somehow turns into a money maker (which YouTube is not) then he’ll probably have an ethical obligation to pay his professionals.

I heard him here first, and have been (sort of) following his career since then. His album is about to be released, and a preview can be heard at the link below. Fortunately, he did not stick to Country as a genre.
