True Irony

It seems this website has brought a smile to anti-gay blogger Stacy Harp’s face. Let’s just consider this my Christmas gift to her:

Box Turtle Bulletin Advertises for Focus on the Family

For those of you who don’t know the website Box Turtle Bulletin is pretty much a site that bashes the Christian right, so I found it hilarious to see a google ad on their website that says to tour Focus on the Family. Sometimes the irony is palpable.

Indeed the irony is quite palpable.

I added Google Ads because, in order to do the work that I do on this site, I drop a ton of money in the copy machines at the university library and spend quite a bit more buying books from Amazon.com. This isn’t stuff that I would normally read for my own pleasure. I even purchase, from time to time, books and DVDs from the American Family Association and Focus on the Family. My e-mail inbox and my postal mailbox have gotten quite interesting lately. After all, how else can I know what they’re saying?

So heck, maybe I should go ahead and sign up for a tour of Focus on the Family myself.

This costs money, and yes, Focus on the Family manages to get a little of it from time to time. But Stacy has gotten her headline backwards. You see, it isn’t Box Turtle Bulletin who advertised for Focus on the Family, it was the other way around. An ad supporting Focus appeared on my website. And I was quite thrilled to see that ad, for a short while at least, has helped to make my work possible. The irony, indeed, is quite palpable.

So let’s just consider this bit of merriment my Christmas gift to Stacy. Merry Christmas to you, Stacy and I’m very pleased to count you among my readers.

When it comes to Google Ads, my control over who advertises and who doesn’t is limited. But if anyone can find an instance where I “bashed” the Christian Right, please let me know. You can leave it in the comments or you can e-mail me. I’d love to know what she may be referring to.

I hope each and every one of you have a very blessed and enjoyable Christmas. Keep warm, and go easy on the eggnog.
