Charles Nelson ReillyCharles Nelson Reilly, who acted and directed on Broadway but became better known for his appearances on games shows and shows, died of pneumonia at 76 in Beverly Hills. He is survived by his partner, Patrick Hughes.

There are many ways to remember Charles Nelson Reilly. He can be remembered for his Tony award winning performances and directorial efforts on Broadway, or for his high-camp appearances on television. I don’t know how he would rather be remembered but I’d prefer to remember him this way, bringing laughter into the world:

Charles Nelson Reilly was the gay comedian for the middle-American gay person…. that is, compared to Paul Lynde who spoke for the coasts!

Well, for my generation, that is…. though I must admit to a closet admiration of Paul Lynde’s antics.

Have fun Charles, wherever you are….

I watch Match Game. I love to watch Match Game. I loved to see Charles Nelson Reilly. I loved his answers and the way he portrayed his answers. He enjoyed the show, even though I have now read that he felt that being on Match Game would be all that he would be remembered for. I think NOT! How lucky we all were to have known him. He was exceptional.
