More Kentucky Homophobia

Timothy Kincaid

November 6th, 2007

fletchers_press.jpgWe reported yesterday on efforts to scare Kentucky voters into keeping their unpopular governor by linking his opponent to gay people. It got worse.

Meanwhile, voters across Kentucky received automated calls suggesting the calls came from “the homosexual lobby” and supported Beshear.

“Beshear is receiving major support from out-of-state gay activists and has publicly committed to same-gender relationships, employment of more homosexuals in state government, including teachers, and support for homosexual adoption of children,” the calls said. “If you believe these rights are fair, please vote for Steve Beshear for governor.”

UPDATE: The “San Francisco treatssoundly trounced the “values” candidates. In the red state of Kentucky.

This does not bode well for those Republicans who are taking the strategy that anti-gay electioneering will blind the voters to inadequate policy positions. Perhaps they might want to forego the gay-baiting and pay attention to that which really concerns the voters.
