Though i do not agree with Ms. corrigan, and believe that she has once more proved that the closet cases in our community are a greater problem than the bigots outside of it, at least she has taken a principled stand.

Very much like fred Phelps. At least he doesn’t pretend to love us. His hate is pure and simple.

that is more than you can say aobut the Barberas, Thomases, and chambers of the world.

“Was a lesbian” or is a lesbian?

I think Corrigan is shining example of democracy. In her written dissent, she states that allowing gay marriage is the moral decision but the constitution does not compel it and therefore she will side with whatever the majority of Californians think. She is putting the will of the people over the will of herself which is the foundation of democracy. But democracy, even when done well, isn’t a perfect system. As shown here, sometimes those in civil authority are right and the citizens are wrong. Personally, I take the opinion of the chief justice that any constitution which provides equality of all people is adequate to compel the court to overrule its citizens, but I do respect Corrigan’s respect for her citizens.

I wonder what she say now that polls show popular approval by Californians is now about 50%? Since there’s no obvious majority either way, doesn’t that void her argument?

I would disagree wit her position. The rights of minorities should never be put to popular vote by the majority. That has never been part of democracy, but law based on mob rule. Even your founding fathers say that rights are inalienable.
