Steve Bing Gives Half a Million

Timothy Kincaid

October 15th, 2008

Steve Bing, a producer of such movies as Beowulf and Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World, has pledged $500,000 to the campaign to fight against Proposition 8.

Bing is what one might call “notoriously heterosexual”. Let’s hope his giving sets an example for those in the entertainment industry who are gay or who have benefited greatly from gay support.

God bless him. What I’m wondering is: where is Tim Gill? He donated $5m to the domestic partnership effort in CO, I hope that he has a strategy for CA.

Just ran across some awesome online ads for No on 8. The “Mac vs. PC” theme has been spoofed before, but never better:

I like to think we can win the battle on the merits of the issue alone but those commercials certainly help. Very creative. Thanks Tara. Are they being seen on TV or just on the internet?

And…are we planning the victory parties for November 5th?

Thank you Jeff, but it seems to me that a lot more is needed. And I hope he’ll give more. I mean, this is infinity times more important than the effort in Colorado. More importantly, there is no limit on what you can give. If I had half a billion, I’d give $30m or so (and even more if needed).

Therefore, let me reiterate my hope that Gill has a plan.

I’m no Billionaire, Millionaire or anything else ending in $$$aire. But, I donated money to No on 8, No on 102 and No on Amendment 2.

It wasn’t much, but I feel that if we ALL donated any amount, $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, etc. that COLLECTIVELY this adds up to A LOT of money!!!

Is it really that BIG of a sacrifice to stop buying that daily mocha frappuccino ($5.00) and instead donate that money to one or all of the campaigns? Just for the next few weeks?

I agree that we should prevail based on the merits alone. But, that’s not the position that the extremists have forced us into. We have to appeal to the “undecided” voters. And the only way to do that is with advertising and getting the word out, which costs money. Unfortunately.

WE ARE GOING TO WIN!!! The winds of change are blowing and the scent is sweet with equality! We now have 3 States where we can legally marry! Massachusetts, California and Connecticut! Soon to be more!!!!

Don’t give up hope!!! I’m not! :-)

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
