Connecticut Marriage Date: November 12

Timothy Kincaid

November 3rd, 2008

The AP is reporting that the Connecticut Supreme Court has set a date:

Gay marriages in Connecticut can start Nov. 12.

Superior Court Judge Jonathan Silbert on Monday scheduled a hearing on that date to enter the final judgment in the case that allows same-sex marriages in the state.

The proceeding is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Attorneys in the court case say that once the hearing ends, couples can pick up marriage license forms at town and city clerk’s offices.

To Barbara who wrote, “Well, we had to do something to make up for giving the country Lieberman.”

All is forgiven.

This is particularly poignant for me. Though I have lived in New York City for 24 years now, I am a Connecticut native. On November 12, 2001 my partner of 21 years died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587. I struggled for years to be recognized as his legal surviving spouse, to no avail.

I hope gay and lesbian couples will take advantage of this historic opportunity. It really does matter, when you need it the most.

I saw Holy joe last night standing behind McCain in a live broadcast. I know he’s not really, or maybe not actually, a Dem anymore. but still, that leaves a very bad taste,
