Iowa Senate President Blocks Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Iowa State Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal is already on record as saying that as long as he’s Majority Leader, there will be no vote on a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. He reiterated that stance today, in no uncertain terms.

God, just listening to that video makes me want to pack my bags and move to Iowa. How much does it suck right now to live in Arizona? (It might also help to note that I am an educator in training, who resides in the state ranking 49th or 50th in education funding.)

It’s such a shame that more people in positions to make a real difference in policy don’t yet “get it” the way he does. Hopefully it won’t take much longer. I think that this decision and the clear and well thought out reasoning given in the ruling may just be a real turning point.

When it comes right down to it, it’s not about “condoning” homosexuality it’s about the laws of our country being applied equally to all it’s citizens regardless of race, gender, religion and yes, sexual orientation!
