The vote on Civil Unions in the Illinois House of Representatives will take place tomorrow, the last day of session. Currently there are 70 Democrats and 48 Republicans in the House. The Governor supports the bill.

Where did you hear it would get a vote tomorrow? That link only says that tomorrow is the deadline for action.

Lee,

The last ‘action’ noted is:

5/29/2009 House Final Action Deadline Extended-9(b) May 31, 2009

Timothy — That just means that the deadline for a vote before the bill dies was extended until tomorrow. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mean it’s on the schedule for a vote tomorrow, and if it doesn’t get a vote, it’ll die. The deadline had been on Friday:

Final Action Deadline Extended-9(b) May 29, 2009

But it was extended when the session was extended into the weekend. It’s possible this will get lost in budget debate and never get a vote, which would be very disappointing.

I may sound like a dope here, but I didn’t know government did this sort of thing on Sundays.

Me neither. But here’s hoping anyway.

They are in extended session right now because of the deadline before break. Click on the schedule and you’ll see that they are in session with a full day’s work. But I’m almost positive the vote for the Civil Union bill should have happened already. I don’t know why nobody has any info:

Mike,

If I’m reading it correctly, the House has only been in session for an hour.

But according to the schedule it’s the second item up for consideration.

It’s extremely frustrating that he is not calling this bill for a vote. At this point, who gives a crap if it doesn’t pass? He does a disservice to all of his constituents (and us) to not let it come for a vote to see where those Reps stand.

Ridiculous. The term is ending. I do not understand this ridiculousness of only calling bills for a vote if they are certain to pass when there’s not going to be additional time anyhow!

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
