After Third Day of Counting, Washington Signature Fail Rate is 13%

Timothy Kincaid

August 4th, 2009

Todays validation of signatures submitted to halt a bill that enhanced domestic partnerships proved to be bad news for anti-gays. Today there was a fail rate of 14.4%, bringing the average fail rate over three days to 13.0%. Although it is difficult to establish a trend over just three days, this does seem to validate the assumptions that as time goes on more errors will be revealed – especially duplicate signatures.

The petition will be valid if it keeps its cumulative error rate below 12.4%.

Just saw this. I knew that sooner or later, they would hit a dirtier batch. Now they are no longer on target. However, we really want to see their deficit expand, since according to the SoS, the local counties can report back that a particular disqualified name is in fact valid. (I assume this would happen where the signatory is a registered voter, but the SoS’s records are not as up-to-date as the county’s records.)

Let’s hope that they will hit some real dirty batches, perhaps reflecting paid-petitioner fakery and/or flawed signatures hastily gathered over that last frantic weekend.

YES….I am getting very tired of having voters decide whether my civil rights are granted!!! Lets hope that the error rate goes up as the IQ of the signatures goes down! CIVIL RIGHTS NOW!

The error rate has continued to climb as more signatures are examined. At the current rate there is little chance of it making the ballot.

So far, they haven’t run into many duplicate signatures. That can only increase as time goes on. A rather slim margin, but very good news.
