Harvey Milk had the right idea so many years ago – help everyone understand that they personally know someone who is effected by inequality. I’m not sure the current messaging is really hitting that message home.

From Canada, our prayers and best wishes, hopes and desires for success in this pivotal week in 3 states.

Could someone please explain why Maine, a state of 1.5 million people with a tiny media industry, can produce kick-ass equality videos when California, with a population almost twenty-five times larger and the biggest media industry in the planet, can’t?

@ tavdy79: The answer is easy: hindsight is 20/20.

There was a lot of foresight, but no one was listening. I tried repatedly to get them to do it differently, and finally gave up.

My God, they actually show gay families! Let’s hope an out of the closet campaign works.

The bigger the state, the lower the common denominator is, perhaps?
By the way, that should be “affected by inequality”. To effect is to do, to affect is to influence/touch upon.

Despite doubts, if this type of campaign DOES work, my faith in humanity will be just a bit stronger come Weds.

Paul:

You are an ignoramus. Every single ad, including the one embedded above, portrays and highlights real Maine families. The montage in the ad above is taken from all the various ads that have run over the past 3 months. The idea is to have every voter think of these hopeful faces when they step into the voting booth. It is exactly the kind of messaging that Harvey Milk would have supported. Whether it succeeds or not is another issue. But one thing is clear: for a Canuck, you are pretty uninformed.
