Oregon Advocates Mull Repealing Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Jim Burroway

November 3rd, 2009

In 2004, Oregon voters approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. In 2007, the legislature approved a law allowing limited domestic partnerships, a measure that survived a petition challenge. Now Basic Rights Oregon and Freedom to Marry are testing the waters to see whether another ballot measure to rescind the 2004 amendment is feasible. If so, they’re thinking about mounting a campaign no earlier than 2012.

There is no same-sex “marriage ban” in Oregon or any other state. It’s not that same-sex marries are “bann ed” from doing anything, it’s that two men or two women cannot constitute a marriage, regardless of what a lot of arrogant judges have to say.

Ben, why exactly is it that “two men or two women cannot constitute a marriage”? Is it because your definition of “marriage” means that it’s solely between a man and a woman? If that’s the case, fine. No one can or will force you to marry someone of the same sex. But why deny two people who care about each other and are willing to make that commitment the right to do so even if they happen to be of the same sex?

Arrogance is already claimed by thinking you are superior simply for believing in some archaic writings about gods and unicorns Ben. The reality is that you’re just another conditioned right-wing idiot who needs to troll through websites he has no business being in… Unless your some closet case like many you think and act as you do.

Saiton,

I disagree with Ben, but accusing him of “believing in some archaic writings about gods and unicorns” when he’s given no indication of being religious shows that you are no less conditioned than he is.

Ben said “There is no same-sex “marriage ban” in Oregon or any other state.”.

Ben, the ammendments prevent same-sex couples from getting married, they were introduced for the sole purpose of preventing same sex couples from getting married – they are a same-sex marriage ban no ifs ands buts or maybes.
