Portugese support marriage equality

Timothy Kincaid

January 27th, 2010

A poll taken after the Portugese Parliament voted to enact marriage equality shows the move to be popular in the Catholic nation. From Bay Windows:

Fifty-two percent of Portuguese support legalization of same-sex marriage, according to a new Eurosondagem poll for Rádio Renascença, SIC TV, and the Expresso newspaper.

The Eurosondagem poll quizzed 1,010 people by telephone from Jan. 7 to 12. Forty-three percent said they oppose same-sex marriage.

And the sad thing is, these nations are approving same-sex marriage through parlimentary process (mind you, some after judicial mandate), while the U.S. will likely do so only (1) after judicial mandate and (2) after a contentious, nail-biting wait to see if another Federal Marriage Amendment is proposed and perhaps successfully passed by the House and Senate??!

If THIS even comes close to a reality, I am getting the hell out of here…and FAST.
