Cardinals blame press coverage of pedophile priests on gay marriage

Timothy Kincaid

The Catholic Church has come up with a new way to blame their current problems with pedophile priests and institutional cover-ups on the gay community. Yes, they are still blaming the press, but now they’ve assigned the media a new motivation (telegraph):

The head of the Vatican City State’s government, Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, also came to the defence of the Pope, condemning what he said was a campaign of “hatred against the Catholic Church.”

Another cardinal, Julian Herranz of Spain, said that the Pope’s opposition to gay marriage and abortion put him at odds with “powerful lobbies (which) would like to impose a completely different” agenda on the Church.

Yep. The only reason why the press cares about the kiddie-diddling priests is because of gay marriage. Un-huh, sure. See if that sells.

Ya know, if these Cardinals had cared about the children who were victims of predatory priests even one tiny fraction as much as they care about the Pope’s reputation, there never would have been a scandal.

Hmm.. I guess Tiger Woods and Toyota must be against gay marriage, too.

The Vatican has no coherent response at all. They seem to be in a panic and are now grasping at absolutely anything to throw against the wall to see what sticks.

My first reaction to this recent chapter in the ongoing scandal was to just sit back and enjoy the show. But then I thought about how that church has perfected the art of obfuscation, deceiving, and lying over its 2000 years of existence, and also thought about the remaining multitudes of gullible believers who will eat it all up.

So now I’m just depressed again.

Cliff Kincaid says he is exposing Catholicism this Friday at the ultra-con Jericho Conference in Washington DC. His email newsletter said:

I am going to blow the lid off the Catholic Church during my speech at the Jericho conference this Friday in Washington, D.C. I am going to document Barack Obama’s Catholic AND communist connections.

It’s the Marxist infiltration of the church that explains how and why so many homosexuals have become Priests.

…gay marriage!? …marxist infiltration!?

clearly these people dont realize how ridiculous they sound. just when i thought blaming the devil for bad press would be impossible to beat.

swift justice and accepting responsibility for cover ups would encourage many more victims to speak out. that’s probably what the catholic church is trying so hard to avoid – the proverbial can of worms. if it’s not coping with the current scope of the growing scandal, how would it cope with an exponential increase in reports of abuse? what credibility would they have left? it’s not just about the pope – a convenient figure for the church to use to attract sympathy and draw up a defensive response.

-end of rant-

They are trying to cover it all up for all the pedo priests so they blame it all on the gay people. Boy what a lot of crap.
What they are really afraid of is they might have to sell off some of their GOLD to cover all the abuse cases so it is better to blame someone else and sweep all the popes problems under the rug.
Those people need to stop and think that if they are so holy, don’t they think God is marking everything down that they are messing up. Preaching Hate instead of love to all people like Jesus did.

Yeah, I thought they might be trying to avoid having other victims chime up as well – though, what would keep them from chiming up right now, I don’t know. It seems like every abuse victim that makes themselves known increases the emergency and likely litigation against the church. Maybe they are worried that if there is a big pay out to the victims that more “victims” would come out of the wood-work? This is a little fun to watch, although I must say, like watching the Republican party mutate into a flaming pile of unreasonable lunatic crybabies – as fun as it is – it’s damaging the integrity and fullness of our political discourse. Perhaps a completely wicked and rotten Catholic church is doing the same to our spiritual discourse?

How can the institution be saved and brought to a state of integrity and driven towards the good ideals that it professes? New pope, new doctrine, kill the priestly celibacy requirement, revise opinions on gays and contraceptives (and the epistemological role of revelation). Seems silly and unlikely, but lots of protestant churches have done just that…

Oh for crying out loud! These idiots have learned nothing about recent scandals in political circles. If you have any chance of surviving or improving your image you get ALL the bad press out there – for God’s sake make sure it’s all truthful too – then apologize profusely, cry on TV, promise to make things right and toss a few sacrificial lambs out. Most folks are suckers for this approach, which is why the smart ones do this, but their arrogance is blinding them to the obvious while they flail about seeking to put the blame on anyone and everyone but themselves. Pretty big failing for supposed Christians and rather stupid PR-wise.

Aquarius is in effect my friends. The church will eventually destroy itself from it’s own devices and it’s people will be left to ponder the stupidity of it’s conditioning. Ironically, only then shall peace on earth come to be.

I’ve seen a number of people express the idea that they’re having fun watching this. While you enjoy watching this, keep in mind the sexual abuse victims who paid the price to allow you this enjoyment – it was no fun for them. Enjoying this situation is shameful if you ask me.

I have had it up to *here* with the RCC refusing to just own up to the fact that their employees molested children and they then covered it up. Deflect, deflect, deflect – that’s all they’re good at these days.

Gay prostitution ring in the Vatican? It’s the gays’ fault. Priest molests 200 deaf children and the hierarchy shuffles him around? Gays’ fault. German RCC abuse helpline is shut down the first day by being swamped with calls? Gays did it.

It’s getting to the point (and I know this can be viewed as intolerant on my part) where I’m starting to wonder about my Catholic friends and family. How on Earth can they support this?

My soon to be in-laws are Catholic, and this isn’t the kind of conversation I want to have with them at dinner, but really, how many scandals does it take for this to be a broachable topic in polite company? How many victims? How many perpetrators?

On Wednesday, the CBC interviewed the Ottawa RCC School Board. The intent was to explore how the Board was dealing with this issue in the classroom. It was a good interview, fair, balanced and the spokesperson was well informed and open – articulating that ‘discussion’ in the classroom was important – with one exception – there would be no discussion about the Pope’s role in all this or discussion about the Vatican. Hmmm…. and therein lies the problem……..

You have to remember the first response to the current outbreak of scandal they had, which was some nearly senile old cardinal who is among the Vatican insider alleging a demonic conspiracy involving homosexuals to bring the Church down.

I suspect that happened to be an accurate rendition of the groupthink that is dominant inside the place. They’ve become so locked into their particular medieval fundamentalism and its rigid, seamless, worldview that they’re absolutely sure of The Devil being at work in this. So as far as they’re concerned, the trick is to discover the degraded people who are acting on behalf of Lucifer.

I’m not convinced that people who live according to these kinds of airtight and reactionary worldviews have proper belief in them. It’s just that all the alternatives have been discarded by selfcongratulatory group/herd effects and internal long negative indoctrination against any other worldview. That they themselves might be inadvertent enablers of evil is impossible- after all, they’re the most moral people on Earth. (Until they’re not.)

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
