Are You a Wacktivist?

Rob Tisinai

I am a “wacktivist.” So says Matt Barber, Associate Dean of Liberty University School of Law. What makes me so wacko? I agree with the UN Secretary’ General’s statement that we should discourage other countries from killing gays. Matt says:

“The United Nations just continues to spiral further and further down into the abyss of irrelevancy. Their radical, leftist, post-modern secular humanist, globalist agenda is just as clear as it has ever been…

[T]his is why so many nations around the world that embrace traditional values, that embrace sexual morality, have really written the U.N. off as an extremist conglomerate of really left-wing ‘wacktivists.'”

So what exactly has big, butch Matt in such a tizzy? Here’s the meat of Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s statement:

No one, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. No one should be prosecuted for their ideas or beliefs. No one should be punished for exercising their right to freedom of expression.

I, therefore, repeat the appeal I made in May: for all countries that criminalize people on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity to take the steps necessary to remove such offences from the statute books and to encourage greater respect for all people, irrespective of their sexuality or gender identity.

No wonder Matt’s so freaked out! Ban Ki-Moon doesn’t think we should torture gays just for being gay! He doesn’t even think we shouldn’t make it illegal! That’s outrageous, huh?? I have to give Matt one thing: abuse of homosexuals is a long-standing traditional value. Many nations sentence gays to long prison terms, and a handful of them punish homosexuality with death:

  • Iran
  • Yemen
  • Pakistan
  • Mauritania
  • Nigeria
  • Sudan
  • Saudi Arabia

Pakistan, Niger, and Sudan, by the way, got nearly $2.5 billion in US military and economic assistance in 2006 (the most recent year for which I could find data).

Matt, apparently, is just fine with this. No, not just fine – he thinks that opposing this means you’re a radical, leftist whacko. The ugly irony that makes this special is that Matt’s not merely part of Liberty University. He’s also director of Cultural Affairs at Liberty Counsel. Did you get that? Liberty University. Liberty Counsel. I think they’re based in Orwellia. Here’s their logo, claiming they advance the sanctity of human life. I guess that make gays less than human:

I’m afraid I had to tweak the logo in light of Matt’s statement. Could not help myself:

May Christ have mercy on his ignorant soul.
If he’s so religious, I wonder if he’s read my personal favorite from the book of Matthew 7:21-23. All of the Christian Taliban should be made to read these words of Christ.

These are also countries where women have no rights either. We usually agree here that anti gay sentiment and misogyny are related.
“Traditional” roles and expectations in many of these countries where gender identity and sexual orientation are literally without any variation.
And are also extremely narrow. These are also countries where arranged marriages to child brides is another aspect of these countries.

But Barber chooses to ignore the barbarity in these countries towards girls and women. Are these just traditional objects of an ideal, or actual people too?

Matt Barber’s idea of what a ‘real man’ is, or a ‘real woman’ for that matter, is so ignorant and uncaring of actual individuals, it begs questioning what he thinks his license is to speak on it.

I have directly appealed to Peter LaBarbera and Brian Brown on the issue of domestic violence.
And countries like the ones listed, engage in domestic violence with impunity. Barber isn’t even TRYING to criticize them on the feminized version of human rights abuses.
Just WHAT traditions is he saying these countries have where morals are concerned?
Wonder if his wife gets to have something to say about that?

These humps have traditional morals mixed up with controlling and oppressive directives.
Morality will always be about how you treat another person, or even an animal for that matter.
It’s about how you treat someone who is weaker than you or you think is.
Are traditions, to Matt Barber, about dictating the terms of control over another person he thinks is beneath or weaker than he is.
I dunno, like apparently maybe women as well as gay people?

Liberty U, is indeed an ironic moniker considering he has no respect for certain other people enjoying such an option.

Especially in countries with much LESS of it than here.
He’s SUCH a yellow piece of meat, isn’t he?

Their sanctity of human life ends when the baby is born. After that, they don’t care who gets killed or how or for whatever reason.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
