Staten Island Teens Arrested For Bullying

At least some local authorities are starting to take bullying seriously:

A Muslim boy says four bullies made his life a living hell in the halls of a Staten Island public school, calling him a “terrorist” and beating him every chance they got.

The victim, a 16-year-old high school freshman, told his father and the police of the constant abuse he endured, prompting the arrests Sunday of his teen tormenters on suspicion of hate crimes.

“[They] punched me in my groin, and I fell to the floor. They started kicking me, and calling me ‘You f—in’ terrorist,’ ‘You f—in’ Muslim,'” the victim, Kristian, told the Daily News. …”I think I can’t go through a year like this again,” said the soft-spoken victim.

Absolutely disgusting, and a reminder that it’s not just our kids in trouble. I hope the trend of punishing bullying in a serious manner continues.

Muslims get bullied too. As the recent unnecessary outcry over Park51 has shown us. And look, that outcry was taken to the “logical conclusion.”

I hope that all the gays out there who engage in or turn a blind eye to anti-Muslim bigotry understand it’s not only GAY children getting bullied as a result of inflammatory rhetoric. I hope Jews out there realize this too.

Unfortunately, I half expected the bullies to be Jewish – there are plenty of Jews in that part of NY who hate Muslims.

Instead, the bullies, as described by the article, are Black and Latino. This is also disturbing.

Of course, can you imagine the outcry of the Religious Right if this were a Christian child being bullied by Muslims? All Muslims would need to keep their shades closed and windows locked.

FRC: We shouldn’t be surprised when those who reject Christ’s love and follow the intrinsically disordered “Muslim lifestyle” are subject to bullying. We need to let our Muslim brothers know there is hope for change in Christ. However, now is not the time for anti-bullying campaigns which “target” children based on their religion.

Oh, but according to “82%” of the population, the Muslims do not experience any bullying, they just need to be more mindful of out little white, christian sensibilities…

I kind of wish that we as a society would stop using the word “bullying” to describe this sort of indecent behavior just because adolescents and young adults are involved. Let’s call it what it is: harrassment and physical assault.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
