Perry appeal will be televised

The Ninth Circuit has ruled that the appeal in Perry v. Schwarzenegger will be aired live:

C-SPAN applied to televise live the case captioned above, scheduled to be heard in San Francisco, on December 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. C-SPAN’s request to televise live is GRANTED. A maximum of two (2) video cameras will be permitted in the courtroom. C-SPAN will serve as the pool-feed for all media organizations that submit an application.

I’m sure the anti-gays aren’t happy about this.

When they lose, I’m sure that their entirely rational and reasonable fear of two C-SPAN cameras in the courtroom will be the reason why the real lawyers couldn’t show up and give the real arguments.

They are just using all these setbacks to take the case away from the “liberal Hollywood types” and take it to Washington, where their puppets will dance to the tune they play.

This is wonderful news! I hope C-Span shows it live on one of its channels.

So now we’re just waiting for SCOTUS to overturn that decision, because we sooo know they will!

So have we indeed learned that those defending Prop 8 DO have Standing in order to appeal, or is this yet to be determined?

That will probably be the first order of business.

Standing is the first issue they’ll be arguing. We’ll get the arguments about the constitutionality of Prop. 8 in the second part of the the hearing, even if the court ultimately rules that none of the appellants has standing.

so basically they are killing 2 birds with the same stone?

So will this get appealed up to SCOTUS like the original broadcasting question did?

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
