Incoming FL Gov. Scott limits non-discrimination

Timothy Kincaid

January 5th, 2011

Incoming Governor Scott of Florida has issued an executive order limiting those whom will be free from discrimination.

It shall be the policy of my administration to prohibit discrimination in employment based on race, gender, creed, color, or national origin, and to ensure equal opportunity for all individuals currently employed in, and individuals seeking employment in, my administration.

These sort of orders are not truly necessary. State and Federal law prohibit employment discrimination on these bases, and executive orders only have any purpose to the extent that discrimination will be prohibited to those not overtly protected by law.

Scott’s executive order is symbolic. His administration wishes to make it perfectly clear that they do not consider sexual orientation or gender identity to be worthy of protection from discrimination.

I note that disability also appears to be AWOL.

Anyone from Florida know what the policy was under Crist?

We were left out under Crist, too.

There’s a reason we call this the Sunshine Hate… Florida likes to portray itself as welcoming and inclusive to lure gay dollars, but there’s an incredible amount of anti-gay animus here.

Yes, disability and age are missing as well. I’m sure folks can come up with others, too.

Age is missing? in FLORIDA’S anti-discrimination policies? It must be they aren’t aware that 1) old people vote the most and 2) FL is where people seem to flock to when they get old.

before his swearing in he had a private prayer meeting with a bunch of southern baptist preachers. i was raised in alabama in a southern baptist house and all my family still is southern baptist. southern baptist and islamist fascist… one and the same. we here in florida are in for a rough 4 yrs. hopefully he can get caught in some kind of scandal and all his policies will put a major hurting on the people of this state. then again there so stupid here they would still vote for him “cause he stands up the blackie in the white house”

So discrimination against douchebag corporate parasites who should be in prison for committing the largest Medicare fraud in history– that’s still okay, right?

I am shocked that he didn’t include “those previously convicted of felonies.”
