DADT may be dead as early as mid-year

The AP is reporting that the Obama administration has outlined a plan that could see the end of the Military’s anti-gay Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy in as little as five months.

Pentagon leaders will roll out a plan Friday that is expected to give the military services about three months to train their forces on the new law allowing gays to serve openly, officials said Wednesday.

The plan, they said, will outline the personnel, recruiting and other regulations that must be changed. It will describe three levels of training for the troops, their commanders and the key administrators, recruiters and other leaders who will have to help implement the changes.

Under that training schedule, full implementation of the law could begin later this summer. Once the training is complete, the president and his top military advisers must certify that lifting the ban won’t hurt troops’ ability to fight. Sixty days after certification, the law would take effect.

I’ll admit that is a shorter timeline than I expected.

Something tells me that they wouldn’t be so on-the-ball about this if they weren’t afraid of the LCR suit.

There’s probably a lesson in this for HRC somewhere….

I’ll be interested to see how they frame changing the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice – the “law” that applies to military personnel) to eliminate the current sodomy article. That has been a fall-back tactic for opponents of DADT repeal in the past…”but the UCMJ says NO to teh ghey sechs!”

Because after hemming and hawing a bit about the excact NATURE of “unnatural carnal copulation”, they lay it right out there: “It is unnatural carnal copulation for a person to take into that person’s mouth or anus the sexual organ of another person or of an animal; or to place that person’s sexual organ in the mouth or anus of another person or of an animal; or to have carnal copulation in any opening of the body, except the sexual parts, with another person; or to have carnal copulation with an animal.”

Nice of them to be so concerned about protecting animals, btw…and I think I’m pretty safe in guessing that with the execption of completely untouched virgin-types, pretty much EVERYONE in the military has violated the “mouth/organ” provision of good ol’ Article 125…oh, the horror!

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
