Democratic Operative Deploys Gay-Baiting Campaign

Unconscionable. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what “unmarried” is code for. From Think Progress:

Less Government Now appears to be tied to Scott Maddox, a Democratic operative who unsuccessfully ran for Agricultural Commissioner last year, and has been used to bolster tea party candidates in an attempt to split the GOP vote. Tampa has non-partisan mayoral elections, but Ferlita, a current county commissioner, is a Republican.

So, what is “unmarried” code for? I’m not a rocket scientist but I am married to one and he doesn’t know either.

In a political campaign? When describing an opponent and why that opponent is disqualified?

Didn’t you know? All unmarried women over the age of 25 must be lesbians!

I love the damning text for Unmarried to the right in the ad

Rose Ferlita has put her political ambition first and foremost, while her opponent is a dedicated family man with two children — Ferlita is an unmarried woman with a suspect commitment to family values.

I’m sure if she were married and had children she would be told that running for political office was tantamount to neglecting her husband and children.

I must be dense, Jim, I still don’t get it.

Thanks Chris, I posted just after your comment and hadn’t seen it.

This is why I keep saying that color was a means of enforcing Jim Crow against blacks and others of dark skin.

Marital status is a means of doing similar damage to gay people. Whether someone is gay or not, marital status is code for being gay, untrustworthy, and immature.

Of course, married politicians have proven themselves to have two of the latter unsavory qualities.
Giving squat credibility to being married as a character reference.

(The fact that the mistress is a lobbyist is icing on the cake for him. I suppose in Newt-world, it just means he REALLY loves Wisconsin.)

So there’s something wrong with being unmarried…it might mean someone is gay?

But especially on the Republican (NEWT!) side (but also, on the Democrat side i.e. Bill Clinton, John Edwards, etc.) the political spectrum is overrun with married serial adulterers…and we’re supposed to find THAT more trustworthy?

Mr. Maddox…do I look like a f*ckin’ idiot to you?

I don’t care if he’s gay or she’s a lesbian…or if he or she is bi or straight…if they’re honest and loyal to their partner I don’t care. I’m f*cking sick of “family values” politicians who cheat on their wives.

I’ve been cheated on, it ain’t no fun.

Actually, it doesn’t even have to imply she’s lesbian.
Just the fact that she’s an unmarried woman makes her unfit to serve society. That is *at least* what they’re implying. And there are still people who think that “career women” are inherently against family values.
The “lesbian” implication is just icing on the repugnican cake.

Wow – I have to correct myself…
Of course I immediately jumped against a certain party, even after reading “Democratic”
Shame on me!

Un-married? Maybe they mean she’s a lesbian and are trying to make her look bad. Maybe they mean she’s straight and no good, a worthless woman because a man hasn’t married her? What ever it is, they’re using marriage and her lack of it to try to destroy her and who ever thought of it is probably divorced.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
