Marcus Bachmann: Gays are Barbarians Who “Need To Be Disciplined”

Jim Burroway

June 30th, 2011

Last Summer, Marcus Bachmann, husband and political strategist to GOP Presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared on a conservative radio talk show to explain his views of gay people:

(at 3:36) We have to understand: barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined. Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road. That’s what is called the sinful nature. We have a responsibility as parents and as authority figures not to encourage such thoughts and feelings from moving into the action steps.

And let’s face it: what is our culture, what is our public education system doing today? They are giving full, wide-open doors to children, not only giving encouragement to think it, but to actually encourage action steps. That’s why when we understand what truly is the percentage of homosexuals in this country, it is small. But by these open doors, I can see and we are experiencing, that it is starting to increase.

It won’t come as a surprise to anyone that Bachmann reportedly operates an ex-gay therapy program in Minnesota (via

Does anyone actually believe this man is heterosexual?

“Does anyone actually believe this man is heterosexual?”

Only if they are delusional, and I doubt that even Michele could be that delusional . . . Yeah, you’re right, she probably is that delusional.

June 30th, 2011

Why is he getting federal Medicare funds for his “therapy” which is not sanctioned by any medical, psychiatric or psychological authority or sanctioning body?

June 30th, 2011

This is too easy.

He experimented as a kid and it was “dicisplined” out of him, meaning someone beat him with the Bible and/or a belt. He is my age and it is entirely possible it was both.

June 30th, 2011

It’s wackadoodle time…again…

June 30th, 2011

Thanks Box Turtle Bulletin, for showing us who our enemies are.

June 30th, 2011

Like Pat Robertson who said years ago that they need to “enforce righteousness” on the LGBT community, Bachmann’s comment is very telling just how we’d be treated under a theocracy. It is very very scary. They are proposing a regime of persecution.

Jim B., what is the link with this text – operates an ex-gay therapy program – supposed to be going to? It’s basically a blank page, except for the framework.

June 30th, 2011

Oooo… Let’s start an ex-straight program and apply for gov’t cheese!!!

Barbarians that need to be disciplined?

Is the ex-gay therapy programme you mention part of his clinic that received $137,000 in taxpayer Medicaid funds last year?

June 30th, 2011

Dude leaves himself wide open with that mess. As a late friend of mine once said “seems pretty nelly to me.”

Will anyone for GOProud be expressing concern about this, or is he one of their allies?

Richard, I’ve fixed the link.

June 30th, 2011

Personally, I admire barbarians..they took down a part of the roman empire only wearing fur or at least that is what Hollywood portrays!

If Hell freezes over and Bachmann is elected at least we’ll still have a First Lady.

Richard Rush

June 30th, 2011

“If Hell freezes over and Bachmann is elected at least we’ll still have a First Lady.”

Picture it: While Michele is running the country into the ground, the First Lady will be running a Christian ex-gay counseling clinic in the White House.

Five biological children–maybe one for each time he was caught by her in a gay bar? LOL

I admire BTB’s restraint in not pointing out the obvious. Can’t wait for SNL next year.

This is they type of person that proved to me there is no god. It’s all fantasy. His life is consumed with it. He’s consumed with sickness. He’s sick because he believes in it. Religion is a form of mental illness. He sounds gay with that lisp. Imagine how sick it must be to be like him, being secretly gay and and spewing out this sickness. He’s mentally ill, there’s no getting around it. He makes me vomit. I’d like to meet him and laugh in his face. He’s evil. All people like him should be put on an island together so they can sit and pray for what they want and get nothing.

There is really no excuse for Bachman’s ignorance on the subject of homosexuality.

Not only are we quite normal, we have made great contributions to the societies in which we have lived, and we continue to support universal human rights…which ironically includes his right to expose himself as religiously inspired bigot.

If Michele Bachman hates gays so much, why did she marry one?

I would like to share a bit of info with these “leaders”. In America, we have freedoms. Freedoms to think, freedoms to express, and freedoms to act as we please as long as we are not hurting anyone. If someone call tell me how someone being gay impacts my life in any way except the fact that it is “offensive” I would like to know. The fact is these “leaders” are persistently trying tying to legalize discrimination. They fight for it and call it sin.

The more that I read, hear or witness discrimination in the name of Christianity the more it loses it’s power to upset me. I am a mother of a straight and gay child. The message that Mr. Bachmann so freely shares does more damage than he will probably ever realize. Thankfully, my gay child was never made to feel wrong or sinful. This child went through much soul searching and understanding of self just as my straight child has done to become a fully formed adult. Why is it so easy to be so careless with the use of one’s words such as barbaric and say Christianity/God in the same sentence when discussing one’s orientation? I thank all of you who help our children be healthy, strong and honored.

God! More tired crap about Gays going after “our” children.

It is so tiresome.

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
