Is covering the back window like that legal?

So…who volunteers to run the license plate number?

Regan DuCasse

Well, actually, yeah. It’s illegal to place any opaque obscurity on the windows of a vehicle. In some states TINTED windows are illegal. Especially front tinted.
Anyway, having an offensive bumper sticker is legal. In some states the DMV limits speech on license plates.

I used to have my pink triangle and rainbow stickers torn off of my car. My equality bumper sticker is in the lower corner of my windshield from the INSIDE.
Where it doesn’t obscure. It’s not on there permanently, but no one can get to it.
Something tells me this hump’s lack of even caring about his OWN safety in traffic says more about his lack of smarts than the rhetoric he’s got plastered all over his trailer.

Man, I sure hope he doesn’t back into a tree or anything. That would be a real shame.

Ya know, this sort of thing is one of our community’s real advantages. When average folk see this, their first reaction – regardless of the messages posted – is “look, a crazy person.” And when they read the message, they associate it with the type of person that does this.

Trailer trash, indeed! This person just exudes classiness.

Regarding obscuring the windows, this appears to be a trailer towed behind a vehicle. As such, I think the driver is required to have larger mirrors on both sides of the towing vehicle. There is no expectation that the driver should be able to see all the way through the rear window of the trailer.

People like this are far more obsessed with homosexuality than most of the readers of BTB are.

Good point Dave! I wasn’t sure if it was a towed vehicle or not.

Your last sentence is truer than these folks would ever admit. But I have seen it for myself.

As a gay man, I’d like to be obsessed as they are, but either a) i don’t have the time, or b) I’m a married man.

Or both.

I don’t think it’s a trailer, there are the remains of a hitch. Some of us are just obsessed about other things.

He had to cover the windows of his mobile meth lab.

Okay if you have two working rear view mirrors right and left, in most states you can have your back window fully obscured. Be it tint, privacy screens or decals. Such items in most states must not interfere with any lights on the vehicle.

So as much as you want to go “Rabble rabble illegal back window blockage rabble” much like the comments themselves, the physical objects themselves are not illegal.

Whether it’s towed or a motor home, you cannot normally see usefully through it from the driver’s seat. Even if they don’t have curtains on the inside, which they normally do. (The last one I was in, the curtains not only were attached top and bottom, but also had velcro to keep them closed as the vehicle bounced along the road.)

Basically, a motor home is equivalent to a panel van. You’ve seen them; no windows on the sides or back. In this case it has them, but they’re for looking out when you’re living in there, not for on-the-road use.

I believe you cannot simply turn your vehicle into a giant sign/advertisement, regardless of covering the windows, in every state.

I looked it up when NOM rolled through town and they had a “crazy car” following their spiffy bus, like a pilot fish…

Is this a for sale add? I’ll pay $50 bucks for it… Sanitizing the inside alone will cost more then it’s worth.

Lots of vehicles are marked to be, essentially, rolling billboards. Look at the sides and back of almost any tractor-trailer, for example. Some places, advertisers pay commuters to have their cars wrapped, and in one area I used to work, there were vehicles that were essentially a flatbed truck with a billboard mounted on them, driven around for the sole purpose of advertising. Meanwhile, the lights and tag aren’t obscured; assuming everything works and there are appropriate mirrors, it should be legal.

Not that anyone crazy enough to write like that, much less then cover the back of their vehicle with it, has any business on the road :)

I find it interesting that a number of you have assumed that the owner is male. Why is that? We should know by now that women are just as capable of being crazy, hateful and bigoted as men are. Do I really need to remind people of Palin, Bachmann, Gallagher, Brewer, Schlafly…

Timothy (TRiG)

That level of obsession is very likely a sign of mental instability of some kind.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
