West Coast Premiere and Live Streaming of Prop 8 Play: Los Angeles & YouTube. Tonight an all star cast will assembly in Los Angeles for a one-night-only benefit reading of Dustin Lance Black’s play “8,” which is based on the court transcripts of the Prop 8 trial that led to its being declared unconstitutional. The reading stars Brad Pitt as Federal District Judge Vaughn Walker, George Clooney as Americans for Equal Rights attorney David Boies, Martin Sheen as AFER attorney Ted Olson, and Kevin Bacon as prop 8 defense attorney Charles Cooper. Other cast members include Jane Lynch, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Cleve Jones, George Takei, and Campbell Brown. The reading is under the direction of Rob Reiner, one of AFER’s founding board members. “8” will have its West Coast premiere reading tonight at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, and it will be streamed live on YouTube beginning at 7:30 PST.

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. We just watched “8” — really amazing. We saw Standing on Ceremony in person and this was incredible as it was in the actual words from court.

It was really good and very cool to see pros reading from the script cold-reading style. That is a first as was this type of live real life play about current time issues streamed live to spearhead a cover-up. What’s that movie where everyone opens their windows in the middle of the night and screams “I’m not gonna take it anymore!”
It’s a brave new world com’in on.

It was a great show with teriffic performances by John C. Reilley, Martin Sheen (whose climactic speech brought down the house), Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and George & Brad.
