Dutch Catholic Church allegedly castrated boys

Timothy Kincaid

Oh dear God.

BBC is reporting a story that is shocking beyond almost anything I can imagine hearing today:

Henk Hethuis, a pupil at a Catholic boarding school, was 18 when he told police in 1956 he was being abused by a Dutch monk. He was castrated on the instructions of Catholic priests, NRC Handelsblad said, and told this would “cure” him of his homosexuality.

The same happened to at least 10 of his schoolmates, the newspaper said.

If this is true, it goes beyond even the most heinous of crimes the Church has committed in the past century. To castrate the victims of their molestation illustrates a depravity that is nearly unfathomable. Truly, this is an evil act and if the Vatican knew of and sanctioned this act, it is an evil organization.

[okay, only 40% of NH Republican caucus voting to repeal marriage runs a close race in the “shocking” category. Wild day today]

What the Inquisition wasn’t enough? How about the Albigensian Crusade? Actually, how about the Children’s Crusade? History is full of examples of the evil of the Vatican.

Craaaazy Day.

I swear this is what’s behind the big push by the bishops and NOM against marriage equality. They see it as the perfect issue to unite the base and get its mind off the abuse of children. And yes I know it sounds like I’m typing while enjoying the protection of my tinfoil hat but I think they are that cynical in their defense of Mother Church.

Horrifying.

And you still think that deity of yours is dear? The actions of its follows show it to be unworthy of worship.

I’m not religious and don’t believe in god… That being said, I don’t think we need to blame “God” for this horror, we need to blame the human created organized religion (RCC) for this atrocity. Blame the real culprit!

I’m not sure I worship the same deity as the Pope and at least some of the cardinals. Mine seems to have nothing in common with theirs.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
