FRC shooter identified

Timothy Kincaid

The FBI has released the identity of the shooter at the Family Research Council. He’s 28 year old Floyd Lee Corkins of Herndon, VA. We don’t yet know exactly what were Corkins’ motivations or what his orientation may be.

And as vile and despicable as I find FRC – as indicated by their absurd suggestions that it’s the Southern Poverty Law Center’s fault for accurately describing them as a hate group – there is absolutely no excuse for this act. I have nothing but contempt for Mr. Corkins’ behavior or for any rhetoric that seeks to excuse Mr. Corkins for this act.

So let me get this straight. The FRC, a hate group, which makes a living by daily demonizing their fellow GLBT and Muslim Americans… and gets absolutely purple-facedly outraged when someone merely asks the question of whether their hate speech fuels violence against those groups… is NOW reflexively jumping on the SPLC for correctly labeling them as a hate group and suggesting somehow that fueled this attack?

What utterly venal and morally bankrupt hypocrites!!

I have no more words to express my contempt for this organization. *spits on ground*

(It goes with out saying I also condemn the violent actions of this gunman.)

There’s always the possibility that mental illness is the driving factor as I think was the case in Aurora.

Man, in some ways the less said about this the better. I mean, I’m hardly going to send a card and flowers to the HRC, but anything else makes me sound like a reflexive lunatic and bolsters their claim of gays as haters.

Let’s just say we’re glad everyone’s going to survive and leave it at that.

This is a neat vid. No sooner does Brian Brown call for “civility” in debate over gay marriage does Soledad O’Brien quote to him from the FRC calling gay people pedophiles. Does Brown concede that that kind of talk might be construed by some as hateful? Oh, no. That’s perfectly acceptable “disagreement”, according to Brown. Unfortunately for Brown, no one but the most hateful bigots would defend the FRC’s comments.
If one good think comes out of this, it might be that news organisations will start to look why groups like the FRC are labeled hate groups. And no, it’s not because they civilly disagree with the “gay lifestyle”.

“There’s always the possibility that mental illness is the driving factor as I think was the case in Aurora.”

We know for sure that mental illness drives Miss Perkins’ lies and hatred of Gay human beings.

I just saw an article that said the FBI reported he was carrying 15 Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in a bag at the time.

Makes you wonder if he might’ve cracked I’ve heard of or seen people do stranger things though.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

The FRC’s Briefs Are Showing

Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
