Paul Ryan: Reinstating DADT Would Be “A Step In The Wrong Direction”

Jim Burroway

September 24th, 2012

GOP Vice Presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan told a Florida TV station that while he voted against the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2010, he believes that DADT should not be reinstated now that so many gay soldiers have come out:

“Now that it’s done, we should not reverse it,” Ryan told WPTV NewsChannel 5 during a visit to Miami. “I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves.”

…”I talked to a lot of good friends of mine who are combat leaders in the theater and they just didn’t think the timing of this was right to do this when our troops were in the middle of harm’s way in combat,” Ryan said. “I think this issue is past us. It’s done. And, I think we need to move on.”

Two weeks ago, Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH), who chairs the influential 170-member Republican Study Committee, told an audience at the Values Voter Summit that he was “’certainly supportive of going back to the previous policy.”

Combat leaders “in the theater”? Huh? BTB error or source error? At any rate, I love how the fact that over a year had passed with no ill effects, and GOP leaders are still pushing the “harmful in combat” false narrative.

I notice that he doesn’t credit the lack of negative effect as a reason to not reinstate the useless, harmful, intrusive and expensive policy. Conservative in name only!

Ryan is offering damage control via the victories of democrats/the rationals, to Romney’s last several Weeks of leaf blowing mouth flatulence.

Screw Paul Ryan! For he panders with lies.

He would make homosexuality illegal if given half the chance and has said so multiple times.

Ryan:

“Theater” is also a military term.

And, yet, for some reason I have a hard time believing him.

Thank you, Secret Advocate.

@customartist, really? Paul Ryan has said he wants to makes homosexuality illegal? I’m no fan of his, but that seems pretty extreme. Do you have a link for that?

Geez, can’t you guys give Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney just a little credit here? They aren’t going to try to reinstate DADT and you still criticize them. For God’s sake, there is no pleasing much of the Republican hating left—ever.

So, Doug, you believe what they tell US, or do you believe what they tell each other when the cameras off? I tend to believe nothing they say, especially when their Congressional leaders are not on the same page, and repeal of DADT would come out of Congress, not the President’s Office. Romney would sign the bill of DADT repeal if and when it hit his desk.

You and your snake oil…
