Marriage support in two graphs

Pew research has conducted another poll on marriage equality. You may have heard the headline that now 54% of the US population now supports equality; but here are two graphs that make it clear as to why the picture is much more positive than just “four percent more than half”.

So often, we point out that we are winning the waiting game. We recognize that our strongest opposition is in the oldest age groups, and equality will come eventually, if only because our opposition is dying out faster than our supporters. But that reflection has always seemed a little macabre to me. So, I find that first graph particularly enjoyable because the show our opposition is not just dying out literally, but also figuratively. The percentages of support are increasing, not just in age groups, but in generations as well, which means we are winning supporters across the board. And that is far better than just waiting for opponents to drop dead.
