Georgia’s state GOP chair Sue Everhart says that once same-sex marriage is legal, straight people will be gay-marrying themselves just to get the benefits:
“Lord, I’m going to get in trouble over this, but it is not natural for two women or two men to be married,” Everhart said. “If it was natural, they would have the equipment to have a sexual relationship.”
…”You may be as straight as an arrow, and you may have a friend that is as straight as an arrow,” Everhart said. “Say you had a great job with the government where you had this wonderful health plan. I mean, what would prohibit you from saying that you’re gay, and y’all get married and still live as separate, but you get all the benefits? I just see so much abuse in this it’s unreal. I believe a husband and a wife should be a man and a woman, the benefits should be for a man and a woman. There is no way that this is about equality. To me, it’s all about a free ride.”
I guess that explains the massive tidal wave of straight people gay marrying in Massachusetts all these years. She’s also against “the gay marriage” kids are so impressionable, ignoring the evidence of gay kids coming out of a complete and total immersion in the straight lifestyle:
“You’re creating with this child that it’s a lifestyle, don’t go out and marry someone else of a different sex because this is natural,” Everhart said. “But if I had a next door neighbor who was in a gay relationship, I could be just as friendly to them as I could be to you and your wife or anybody else. I’m not saying that we ostracize them or anything like that. I’m just saying I’m against marriage because once you get the gay marriage you get everything else.”

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.
When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.
In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. This has tremendous consequences, not just for gay men and women, but more importantly for the safety of all our children.
Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. In this report, we will take you step by step into the study to see whether the claims are true.
Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.
The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.

Free Ride?
Bulletin to Sue Everhart!!!
“Gays Pay Taxes”
And given the fact that currently only Heterosexuals COLLECT benefits on those taxes, then the only ones who are getting a “Free Ride” are the heteros.
Straights owe Gays a huge debt – and as these benefits have been denied to gays in an Un-Constitutional manner, they need to be paid back, with interest.
THIS should be the next Supreme Court case.
Come on Georgia Voters!? Is this all you have to offer?

Well, as everyone knows, no straight person would ever try to defraud the government or an insurance company or an employer by PRETENDING to love the person they are marrying.
That’s why the marriage license applications in almost every state may you sign an affadavit, under penalty of perjury, that you really truly love the person you are marrying, really, truly. (That was snark.)

Funny!
I wish the case was being made more effectively and often that marriage equality is about the full package of rights and responsibilities. We’re fighting for the privilege of paying more taxes when necessary, for responsible divorce if things don’t work out and for shared financial pain when one spouse is doing OK and the other bottoms out.

Oh, and, Susan, universal single-payer health insurance would eliminate the problem of straight people gay-marrying for the sake of getting benefits.
There. Now you Republicans have a perfectly good reason to support that kind of health care reform.

So how is this different from straight people marrying just for the benefits? Or marrying someone from out of the country to bring their entire family over legally? You can’t convince me there’s a difference.

Marriages of convenience are very traditional and have happened for about over a thousand years.
As if two people would really pretend to be gay instead of finding someone of the opposite sex to game the system.

All of you are making comments based on fact, common sense, and logical reasoning. These things will not reach this woman.
She’s completely untethered. Her thought balloon, full of hot air, is being batted about in the breeze, slowly disappearing into space. All she knows is that the gays are icky, unnatural and sinful. She can’t even figure out how two men or two women could have sex.

Right Gene. She’s acting like allowing gays to marry will enable fraud that’s never been possible before – she’s really stupid, she’s just throwing out the first fabricated objection she can without having thought it through in the slightest.

Oddly enough, she has it exactly backwards.
Gay people do – at times – fraudulently marry for benefits or immigration. In fact, there’s an underground industry for just that: gay people marrying someone of the opposite sex so that person can get a green card, etc.
I’ve met gay men who have married a woman who wished to immigrate. They figured that they weren’t going to be able to use their marriage rights, so why not?
Allowing gay people to marry only disencentizes that form of crime. And, indeed, I don’t think I’ve heard of any California gays doing so recently. You don’t want to screw up your chances to ‘domestically partner’ (and some day marry) a person you truly love.

Wow, the only time I’ve ever heard anybody say anything like “hey, we should get a civil union just for the benefits, it’s not like there’s ever gonna be any requirement of monogamy” It was directed at me by my best friend and I knew it was a joke, specifically intended to piss off the homophobic idiot on our shift at work…who had apparently said something like what she said while I was in the bathroom.
Scarily enough this lady doesn’t seem to be joking.
As my late friend used to say,I wish I could see things from their perspective, but I can’t get my head that far up my own ass.
Geesh! …and people voted for this lady? *Really?*

I figured it out!
In 2006 there was a horrid movie, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,” featuring Adam Sandler (who else) that involved two macho, straight firefighters who pretended to be gay for insurance purposes.
I’d bet big bucks that Ms. Everhart saw it, or at least heard about it, and drew far-reaching conclusions. Another case of the movies being mistaken for real life!

I think she’s got a serious deficit of “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes”. One of the most important aspects of knowing someone who’s gay is getting something of a reality-check. Her imagination is meandering off without any anchor point because, once the rules she was raised to understand were core are no longer in place, well, why wouldn’t virtually anything be possible? She doesn’t seem to being bitchy here. She just truly seems lost in the weeds.
What this lady needs is a good haircut and a gay night out with some actual gay people. In my house that would basically entail getting my hair cut by a straight woman and then sitting at home with my hubby watching Netflix. I’m guessing she’d find a lot of anchorpoints there that she can relate to…

Wow, the more they talk the more its clear that Dan Savage was absolutely right when he said that the last remaining argument against marriage equality is that “straights suck” and are so despicable that THEY need marriage to limit their damage.
This idiot woman’s statement fits PERFECTLY into that argument.

‘cause she knows full equality will come.
She exclaimed, “Oh My Gawd!
If gays marry, there’ll be fraud!â€
And thus proved to the world she is dumb.
