Anti-gay Activists can now rejoice that violent hate crimes against gay persons will continue to be ignored by the federal government.

Are we waiting for a better political climate in 2009 (after the elections) before we attempt to pass this bill again?

I’m willing to wait a year. I’m counting on the 2008 election to sweep a whole lot of new enlightened people into Washington D.C. and then by the middle of 2009 we can let this bill stand on its own.

I’m sadden by the actions of our friends in Congress but I’m inclined to look at this setback as just temporary.

This time we need to keep reminding people when hate-crimes legislation is good for religion it should be good for the GLBT community too.

Call their bluff. Submit a bill to repeal protected status for religion. Religion only. Surely if they are that opposed to hate crimes legislation on principle and not just anti-gay bias they will jump at the chance to chip away at it.

The jury is still out with people believing homosexuality is not a choice. But EVERYBODY knows that religion IS a choice. So even if the anti-gay people succeed in convincing the entire American public that homosexuality is a choice and therefore should not be protected under law, they are ignoring the undisputed fact that religion is a choice as well – and therefore should also not be protected.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
