LaBarbera Award: Pastor John Hagee

Jim Burroway

The LaBarbera AwardI don’t know how we managed to overlook John Hagee when handing out LaBarbera Awards. He’s uttered so many doozies in the past, so much so that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain was finally forced to distance himself from the man whose support he once courted.

But this latest discovery looks like it’s about as good a reason as any to recognize some of the lunacy which runs rampant among anti-gay extremists:

On March 16, 2003, on the eve of the United States’ invasion of Iraq, Pastor John Hagee took to the pulpit to warn of the coming Antichrist. In his sermon, “The Final Dictator,”Hagee described the Antichrist as a seductive figure with “fierce features.” He will be “a blasphemer and a homosexual,” the pastor announced. Then, Hagee boomed, “There’s a phrase in Scripture used solely to identify the Jewish people. It suggests that this man [the Antichrist] is at least going to be partially Jewish, as was Adolph Hitler, as was Karl Marx.”

You see? Fred Phelp’s Westboro Baptists aren’t a complete aberration. You can get the full effect here:

Now you see, that’s how you win the LaBarbera Award.

By the way, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) still says he’s going to deliver the keynote address at Hagee’s Christians United For Israel (CUFI) summit. Also scheduled to attend is Rep. Elliot Engel (D-NY). No word yet on whether Engel has reconsidered given this latest outburst.

He’ll be “a homosexual”? What’s Hagee relying on there other than his own personal biases?

It reminds me of Anne LaMott’s famous quote:

“You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”

Timothy, Timothy….

Even now, I am planning the end of the world, being both Jew a fag, and thus particularly capable of it. I just don’t know how I am going to slaughter 1/3 of the world’s population before brunch on Sunday, yet keep my plans for all the cute boys remaining secret from My Satanic Husband. You know how they get.

Bwaahhaaaaahaaaaaa.

What i don’t understand is, what is Holy Joe doing there. Is he that desparate for friends?

One of the amazing things about Hagee is his delivery. He could be a poster boy for Pompous Windbag. Although Rush Limbaugh is tough competition.

Regarding Fred Phelp’s clan: I have long thought that the main difference between them and the more mainstream Fundamentalists is mainly one of style and political naivete. If they actually achieved their goals for gay people (whatever they are), I’m not sure the results would look much different than the goals of Robert Knight, Matt Barber, or Peter LaBarbera.

I actually read about this earlier this evening. Jews On First has also been covering Hagee’s hateful rhetoric and has been critical of him and his organization CUFI from the beginning. None of it surprises me. When you’re demonized as god-killers for so long that it gets to the point where a government can haul you off to death camps without ordinary citizens caring what happens to you (after all, you are the “children of the devil” – John 8:44), seeing stuff like this really doesn’t surprise you.

Considering that both Sts. John & Paul in their epistles describe the Antichrist as being a great deceiver, it would make far more sense for him to come in the guise of a seemingly pious Christian “pro-family” advocate rather than a homosexual or a Jew. Such would enable him to truly deceive the world and lead the faithful astray more easily. How many such figures, or little antichrists as seen in the Apocalypse of John, has history seen where evil is cloaked in the guise of righteousness? Perhaps Mr. Hagee et al should keep that in mind instead of pointing fingers at others.

They dont care about that John… i bet hes just trying to make a point of how ‘far from THE god’ jews and homosexuals are.

Theres a 4 part series in veoh.com about Jesus Camp that rings in line with this clip.

Oh I know, Joel, I just think we should remind them of this point whenever they make this kind of charge. It leaves a bit of food for thought for some.

If there’s an anti-Christ, I have little doubt they’ll be a conservative Christian. Maybe even a sweet, little old widow. Who’d ever suspect?!

Wasn’t Jesus a Jew who hung out in the desert wearing a robe, trailed everywhere he went by a bunch of his closest male friends?
Leave it to these anti-gay freaks to turn His followers into a bunch of temple-dwellers, scamming the poor out of cash with fear and using a close description of their own lord for the anti-Christ.

God is already punishing Oklahoma for Sally Kern. What do you think She’ll do to Hagee?

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
