Chronicle Says “No on 8”

Well knock me down with a feather. The San Francisco Chronicle has – oh gasp, surprise – issued a recommendation to vote no on the anti-marriage amendment Proposition 8.

Proponents of Proposition 8 like to cast their campaign as “restoring marriage and protecting California children.” As we have said before, there is nothing more calming or traditional to American society than giving two people who love each other the opportunity to build a life together – raising children, sharing dreams, balancing careers, building communities.

Californians should reject Proposition 8.

Though not too shocking, the Chronicle recommendation is ever so welcome.

Also out yesterday is the rejection of the proposition by The Contra Costa Times.

They both join:

As for those newpapers in favor of Proposition 8? I hear they have the Death Valley Evangelical Weekly Handout… or they will as soon as the mimeograph machine is up and running again.

And how about this! The East Valley Tribune, which is a rather conservative paper serving a very conservative area (Mesa, AZ, where a lot of the Mormon money is coming from to pass Prop 102), just came out as opposed to Prop 102!

My friend witnessed a security guard vandalizing a No on Prop 8 poster on Pasadena Art Center campus. He couldn’t get his camera out on time to video tape the action, but did take a picture of the poster (http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq8/kennethlei/Noonprop8Vandalized.jpg). He reported the incident to the head of the security on campus. Sadly they did not take it seriously, even it was committed by a security guard. Note that the security guard appears to be strongly opposed to male same sex marriage but gets turned on by the idea of a lesbian couple. I despise these perverted people who claim that they are morally righteous beings!!

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
