Ugandan Boycott Called

Jim Burroway

January 19th, 2010

The controversy surrounding Uganda’s draconian Anti-Homosexuality Bill has resulted in at least one call for a boycott:

[Ugandan pastor Martin] Sempa said, “Most Ugandans do not support homosexuality. We are to launch a campaign against consumption of US, UK, and Canada products in Uganda if those countries continue to threaten our country because of the anti gay bill. We will make people stop buying Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola and other products from USA.”

As an anti-gay politician from our recent past once put it, “Bring it on!” In fact, get the American Family Association to support it and start a similar boycott here! It’s not as if it’ll make much of a dent in those companies’ profits anyway…

OMG! The USA’s economy is gonna crash because Ssempa told Ugandans to stop drinking soda!

If the USA, UK and Canada withdraw finanacial support to Uganda, they are not going to have money to spend on sodas anyway. AFA, I believe, are already boycotting most of the soft drink industry because of the wide support of the homosexual agenda.

If Ugandans stop drinking American sodas, they will probably be better off for it health-wise.

Unforturnately for Ssempa and all the corrupt Ugandan officials, if the West cuts off or decreases aide money, there will be that much less to steal. Many governments use graft and corruption to keep the loyalty of their supporters. Without that big pot of money waiting to be stolen, Museveni might have a tougher time maintaining control. And after all, this isn’t really about homosexuality (though gay people have suffered and will suffer), this is about power, the only thing dictators care about.

Too funny – with aid money pouring into Uganda, there wouldn’t be any western product consumption…….. absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Last time I checked, the West was a far more important export market for Uganda than Uganda is for the West. The only real change I can foresee from a coke boycott is that you’ll have fewer Ugandans with rotten teeth after a few years.

Boycott products from the West and see how the everyday Ugandans like it, see how much support the government really has.

my fellow ugandans, don’t just stop at sodas: boycott all products and services you receive from the US such as Aid dollars, technology, and bigotted anti-gay pastors.
