Uganda’s “Kill-The-Gays” Bill To Be Featured on ABC’s Nightline Tonight

Jim Burroway

March 10th, 2010

The story that we have been following for more than a year will be the main focus of tonight’s Nightline on ABC at 11:35 EST. A Nightline producer tells me that a shorter segment will also appear on World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer at 6:30 EST. Check your local listings.

It looks like it will be well worth watching (or recording, if you can’t stay up for it). Martin Ssempa is already upset that the Nightline crew didn’t fall for his easily-disproven lies. Journalists see a lot of crazy and corrupt megalomaniacs  in their line of work, and madmen like Ssempa can be spotted from miles away.

Oh, a depraved mind like Jim feels irritated when Ssempa gets an opportunity to air his views. For goodness sake let the man appear and inform the morally deficient America. Ssempa you have our support.Go on!

James, you and Ssempa are liars and seek to imprison and murder those who harm no one – it is you who are depraved.

James, have you actually read this horrid bill? Do you know what you’re supporting?

“Oh, a depraved mind like Jim feels irritated when Ssempa gets an opportunity to air his views.”

Yes James, Jim is soooo irritated with Ssempa getting that opportunity that he’s giving a plug to the program on his website while saying that “it looks like it will be well worth watching.” Did you even read the post you responded to?

And the depraved mind is Ssempa’s, not Jim’s.

Alan Chambers just posted on Throckmorton that ABC News declined his request to set the record straight — pardon the pun.

Here is Alan’s post: Alan Chambers ~ Mar 10, 2010 at 4:48 pm

“I am disappointed that Exodus won’t be heard in this piece. Sadly, Don Schmierer declined the interview and our request to go on record with ABC was denied. I would have loved nothing better than to share our disdain for this bill and apologize for going anywhere near such a horrible conference.”

I guess Mr. Schmierer had second thoughts since December 3, 2009:

“What is true, however, and worth all the news media coverage possible, is the tragic nature of and heartbreaking potential this bill holds.”

Ah yes it’s so depraved to be standing up for people’s lives instead of cheering on a murderous rampage. Thanks for clearing that up, James.

Not sure how “Exodus” factors into the storyline here, aside from the reality that they take the position of homosexuality being a “curable” “illness.” I wonder how successful they are with that business model? I was thinking of starting a competing institution that converts heterosexuals into homosexuals. Anyone want to be my angel investor? I wonder if I can qualify for church exempt status.

The important aspect to consider is that this Bill is NOT ONLY targeting those persons who attack other persons who do not welcome Gay sexual relations, but it DOES include Adult Gays who Consent Between Themselves to engage in Gay relations, making this too illegal and punnishable to the extent of death. THIS is the problem with this legislation, and it is and has always been fully known by all of the American Supporters like Rick Warren and “The Family”.

Certainly all people would agree that acts of sexual aggression, Gay or straight, are to be condemned.

There is a clear distinction here that is NOT made distinct in the proposed Bill, nor by Sempa and his supporters.

So the question is: Should Consenting Adults be outlawed / punished by the majority for the actions in the privacy of their bedrooms? I say no.

Rick Warren, “The Family”, and others promoted this movement, factually. This resulting inferno is the blood on their hands, and denying or minimizing their involvement is the Real Abomination.

They are not Men of God.

Reading and contemplating the recent posts on BTB and various comments that I and others have posted, I have two thoughts remaining: 1) desperate people do/say desperate things; and 2) countering these homophobic diatribes with scripture versus will do little to move our ‘agenda’ forward – everyone will position that they have the ‘truth’ in their interpretation of scripture. What we need is to vocalize that we, in fact, DO have a homosexual agenda – an honest expression of exactly what we are trying to achieve.
And what is that agenda, you ask? Well, in my mind, it is this: to burst the bubble of the right-wing, conservative ‘christian’ concept of a homogenous society – to dispell the myth that society is more than one groups concept and desire of a specific moral application in religion and civil society – that our agenda is to awaken society to support and celebrate diversity in community, culture, religion and civil rights – to cherish our individual and collective differences protecting the right for liberty and the persuit of happiness in our individual and collection efforts to live our lives free of discrimination and to live in true equality. Yes, we do have an agenda, based on strong moral, ethical and civil principles applied equally for all!
Seems to be working well here in Canada, anyway.

It’s when Martin Ssempa states that “we need to know what they (gays) are doing in their bedrooms” that he gives us an insight into his obsession with graphic sex. The fact is that neither the church nor the state has any business in the bedrooms of the nation.

Also, by comparing Homosexuality to terrorism, this religious nutter looses all credibility in the eyes of anyone who can and does think for himself/herself.

Finally, I agree with Paul in Canada (above) that the so-called ‘gay agenda’ seems to be working well here in Canada although the Harper government has just succeeded in removing a passage from a immigration brochure concerning the legality of LGBT Rights in Canada. So, no matter where we are, we do have to be alert and to persevere. The global trend is on our side.

Yes Jean-Paul, when Ssempa says “we need to know what they (gays) are doing in their bedrooms” it highlights his lunacy – what possible rational reason could there be for needing to know what anyone is doing in their bedroom?

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
