The Atlantic has a cute story about the sayings that Necco’s Sweethearts have taken off the candy over their nearly 150 years. This is the illustration:

Which was all nice and fine until I saw this one.

Yeah, I know what it is supposed to say, but really? Really? C’mon, it’s tough enough being 49 and single this week.

Beat me to it.

And Timothy, you may be 49 and single, but you are a very attractive man. Don’t take a misprint on a piece of bad cAndy as a personal message from the universe.

Soren, that looks much more like a “U” than a “D”. I’m also curious as to what its supposed to say.

I know it’s probably a misprint or the lettering on the “D” just wore off, but dude, that’s just wrong.

It still made me laugh, but that’s just wrong.

As Soren said, it’s definitely “Hold hands.” It’s printed too far to the left, so the H’s aren’t visible, and the top of the D has worn off.

There’s still hope, Timothy. I met my husband when I was 52 and he was 23. We’ve been together for 15 years and legally married for five.
