And Delaware Makes Eleven

Timothy Kincaid

May 7th, 2013

The Delaware Senate voted for marriage equality today. While it was predicted to be a squeaker, the final vote of the 21 member body was 12 to 9. Governor Markell has pledged to sign the bill, so Delaware makes eleven:

2004 Massachusetts
2008 Connecticut
2009 Iowa
2009 Vermont
2010 New Hampshire
2011 New York
2012 Washington
2012 Maryland
2012 Maine
2013 Rhode Island
2013 Delaware
and
2010 District of Columbia

And now over 50 Million Americans live in a state that has full equality.

Update: Gov. Jack Markell signed the bill this evening. Marriage equality goes into effect on July 1.

Clearly a sign the “traditional marriage” folks are winning – except if the legislature, governor or population support equality. As marriage equality marches across the land, I wonder if Brian and his troops will have to pull a Jefferson Davis & flee the comforts of VA bigotry for lands further and more deeply southern.
