Possible Movement On Uganda from US Episcopalians

Jim Burroway

November 24th, 2009

The Episcopal News Service in the United States reports:

A teleconference meeting of the Episcopal Church’s Executive Council will take place on Dec. 7 to discuss a possible statement on Ugandan legislation that would imprison for life or execute people who violate that country’s anti-homosexuality laws.

This would be a welcome addition to the Anglican Church of Canada’s statement. But so far, no signs of life are emanating from the Anglican Communion itself

FYI, these are the Anglican Communion itself. Every Episcopal church is part of the Communion. Better would be “no signs from the Archbishop” or “from the Communion as a whole.”

In all likelihood, only the individual provinces, those with more liberally leanings, will weigh in on this controversy. There are many third world provinces that actually approve of this bill, with very minor alterations. As regards Mr. Rowan Williams, he won’t speak up until ALL the provinces are in consensus — in other words NEVER.

Meanwhile, from the Catholic Church we hear:

Silence.

Oh that’s right, it’s too busy with more “dangerous” fights as can be seen in the so-called Manhattan Declaration.
