Timothy Kincaid

June 8th, 2009

AP The Supreme Court on Monday agreed with the Obama administration and refused to review Pentagon policy barring gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. LGBT Activists Call for March On Washington

Jim Burroway

June 8th, 2009

Anti-anti-gay music video

Gabriel Arana

June 5th, 2009

Normally Box Turtle’s brow is a bit higher, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Often I am so engrossed in the discussion about gay rights that I forget how much I like gay people, how proud I am of the people in our community and how happy I am to be a part of it. Of […]

HRC Feels the Heat, But Still Doesn’t Get The Message

Jim Burroway

June 5th, 2009

One popular blog reported yesterday that the Human Rights Campaign cut a deal with the White House to withhold public pressure on repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” until sometime next year. HRC immediately issued a statement calling the report “an outright lie” and “recklessly irresponsible.” Nevertheless, many grass roots LGBT activists weren’t convinced. I had […]

Support For Same-Sex Marriage Is Like Catching Cooties

Jim Burroway

June 4th, 2009

A recent Gallup poll found that when people personally know someone who is gay or lesbian, they are much more likely to support same-sex marriage than those who don’t. For us, that means one thing: come out, come out wherever you are. But for our opponents, it means something very different. For Gary Cass at […]

Welcome to My Fraudulent Religion, Please Pay Tithes

Timothy Kincaid

June 4th, 2009

In a moment of bitter spitefulness, Peter LaBarbera sent an email to Jeremy Hooper, our friend who humorously tracks (and mocks) the nuttiness that is the hallmark of anti-gay activism at his site GoodAsYou.org: After offering his ill-wishes for Jeremy’s upcoming wedding (yes, really), LaBarbera takes a swipe at gay Christians: Homosexual behavior is always […]

Grove City College (PA) professor Warren Throckmorton has embarked on an ambitious and well-researched series of articles examining Scott Lively’s anti-gay Holocaust revisionist theories. Lively’s book, The Pink Swastika, puts forth the thesis that “the Nazi Party was entirely controlled by militaristic male homosexuals throughout its short history.” According to Lively, it was gay people who […]

June 3rd, 2009

Six states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire) now recognize marriage equality. Although actual marriages do not yet take place in a few (due to effective dates), sixteen million Americans live in states that value their same-sex couples as equal citizens. This is 5.3% of the US population. Five states (California, New Jersey, […]

Timothy Kincaid

June 3rd, 2009

Domestic Partners may be recognized in Rhode Island. But only once they are dead. Providence Journal: the Senate on Tuesday approved a bill giving “domestic partners” the right to claim the bodies of — and make funeral arrangements for — their loved ones. A domestic partner is defined in the measure as “a person who […]

Rethinking HIV Testing

Timothy Kincaid

June 3rd, 2009

There is no good reason for any American becoming HIV positive today. Which is not to say that there are not a lot of very understandable explanations why an individual might become infected. Social pressures, education, self perception, culture, diminished self worth, drugs and alcohol, and even trusting the word of a careless liar all […]

June 2nd, 2009

Many of the groups are based on entertainment, hobbies, religion and spirituality, history, politics — you name it. Even hate groups advocating the murder of gays and lesbians. One such hate group with a Facebook presence is the “Kill Out […]

Obama Issues LGBT Pride Proclamation

Jim Burroway

June 1st, 2009

As far as I know, this is a first for a sitting president to acknowledge Pride month. (If I’m wrong, please correct me in the comments. Update: Commenter Ron points us to Clinton in 2000 and 1999.) This month is particularly significant as it comes on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, which is […]

Timothy Kincaid

June 1st, 2009

Washington Post: Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday he supports gays being able to marry but believes states, not the federal government, should make the decision. “I think, you know, freedom means freedom for everyone,” Cheney said in a speech at the National Press Club. “I think people ought to be free to enter […]

Nazi Comparisons

Timothy Kincaid

June 1st, 2009

Scott Lively has earned his organization Abiding Truth Ministries an official SPLC Hate Group designation by making extreme (and bizarre) claims about gay people. Perhaps his best known is accusation that gay men were responsible for the atrocities of Hitler\’s Nazi regime. It is the subject of his book, The Pink Swastika. Not finding fertile […]

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
