Exodus International board member Don Schmierer responds to the brutal murder of Ugandan LGBT advocate David Kato in his typical style, by reminding everyone who the real victim is:
On Thursday, Don Schmierer, one of the American evangelicals who visited in Uganda in 2009, said Mr. Kato’s death was “horrible.”
“Naturally, I don’t want anyone killed but I don’t feel I had anything to do with that,” said Mr. Schmierer, who added that in Uganda he had focused on parenting skills. He also said that he had been a target of threats himself, recently receiving more than 600 hate mails related to his visit.
“I spoke to help people,” he said, “and I’m getting bludgeoned from one end to the other.”
Kato died from hammer blows to the skull, but Schmierer’s the one getting “bludgeoned,” as he reminded us before here, here and here. Make a note of it.

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.
When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.
In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. This has tremendous consequences, not just for gay men and women, but more importantly for the safety of all our children.
Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. In this report, we will take you step by step into the study to see whether the claims are true.
Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.
The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.

Schmierer’s comment is unbelievably offensive and insensitive. I can’t imagine how anyone could be interviewed about a violent murder and attempt to twist into one’s own victimization.
Why does Exodus keep such an inept person on its board?

That’s the same unbelievably self-centred and callous attitude that allows them to claim gays marrying is an attack on their freedom of religion and speech.

If Jesus Christ could see these evangelical scumbags in action he’d effin’ puke.

Norm: “Why does Exodus keep such an inept person on its board?”
Because keeping him does them no damage. Remember, the people Exodus tries to reach are fundamentalists who believe anything they are told. Any-thing.

to be able to utter such insensitive and selfish things, i’m convinced that one must either have little respect for human life… or believe that not all human beings’ lives are equal in worth.
sad.

You sir are an affront to Christianity. The message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is love, not hate. Your perspective is that God continues to make mistakes by creating gay men and women is heresy. Now your ignorance of the Christian faith has resulted in the murder of one of God’s children. Where is your shame? Will you finally understand the evil that you spew has consequences and repent of your hatred or continue to spread hate in the world?

I’m speechless at the callousness of Mr. Schmierer’s remarks concerning the brutal murder of David Kato. Be assured that David’s blood, as well as the blood of others, is on his hands and God WILL demand it.
God is not mocked or fooled by pharisees, regardless of the century in which they spread their venom.
I would not want to be one of them. How will they explain their actions when they face Jesus Christ in judgment? I can guess what He will say: “Depart from me. I NEVER knew you!”
How very sad that the people who claim to be on the side of God are in fact doing great evil. I pity them. May God help them see their error and lead them to repentance before it’s too late.

How dare Schmierer claim victimization. Was he beaten to death with a hammer because he is supposedly heterosexual? This man has no shame! Evangelical missionaries are spreading the gospel of hate, intolerance and evil. I have volunteered at an orphanage in Tanzania and I see the damage people like Schmierer have done to the local populace. This man and others like him are truly the devil’s disciples.

Every member of Exodus International are murderers. They have the blood of an innocent man on their hands now. I prayerfully wish them to experience the same courtesy they extended to David Kato and his family.

Look, I’m gay but I’m conservative.. Go figure.. I also reject organized religion but still believe in god. This man is every bit as guilty as the animals that swung the hammer. How dare you go to a foreign country and start stirring the pot when you don’t even know what is already cooking in it? Way to live the stereotype of western arrogance…. douche.
